Do you know the cardinal rule when using computers (and even with you website)? Back-up, back-up, back-up.
Last Wednesday, our PC broke. After bringing it to the Geek Squad at Best Buy (where you need to pay $199 only to have your PC checked-up with no guarantee whether they can fix it or not) and to the Office Depot (we didn’t know that they have computer repair services, only learned about it from an ad outside their store which, fortunately is just a stone throw away from Best Buy), we finally declared the hard drive as damaged.
Now, all my files and images are gone – not only those blogging related but our family and personal files, videos and pictures as well. I have a back-up of our pictures but the last time I made a copy of everything was in March – and we’ve been traveling (and taking a lot of pictures and videos) after it. All of those are unrecoverable now!
What a waste!
So I’d like to remind you all to always back-up your files because you’ll never know when your data storage devices (hard drive, flash drive, etc) will fail. I’m even thinking if we should try to get an online backup storage for our files. I’ve heard of a lot of people who get some secure ftp hosting service and make it as a storage of their backup files.
