If you have a company, you need to have the right approach to marketing. If you fail to market your company in the right way that lets people know about it, you will not be around for very long. When done correctly, marketing will not only make consumers know that your brand exists; it will also tell them why your brand is better than the competition.
A wide variety of marketing techniques has been developed over the years. Certain marketing methods are ideally suited to promote certain types of products. Knowing the right marketing method to use is a key element to success in the business world. It is also important to find out who is seeing your advertising. Audience measurement is a way to go about doing that. Here are the methods that are used during this process.
1. Software
As technology has advanced over the years, various companies have developed software that is capable of compiling the various viewing habits of people. This is usually compiled in conjunction with their DVR. This information can be broken down and analyzed to determine how long the person watched a specific show, when he or she started watching it and whether it was recorded, watched in time delay or watched live. When this information is combined with the age of the people living in the household, it can be extremely valuable to companies that are trying to reach specific demographics by advertising on certain TV shows.
2. Electronic
Prior to the development of the software that is now being used along with DVRs, it was common for electronic devices to be attached to the TVs in households who had agreed to participate in a Nielsen ratings survey. This was a more primitive way to accumulate much of the information that software is now capable of collecting. However, DVRs were not around 20 years ago, so these devices were the only way to collect this information via electronic means. It is still commonly used because not every household has a DVR. However there are even more new and innovative ways to capture data from consumers such as Kantar social TV.
3. Diaries
These are obviously the most inaccurate way of collecting information about what and when a person watched something on TV. This is because you are leaving it up to the person to enter all of the information accurately. In a diary, you can never really be completely sure if the person watched all of the shows he or she has listed.
