Managing people is one of the hardest things that anybody has to do in an office or warehouse environment. After all, you don’t want to be the bad guy and you don’t want to spend your time reprimanding adults like children.
However, if you’re the manager, you may need to reprimand people to keep them under control. What if there was a better way – a few better ways – to get your employees to work their hardest without keeping your thumb over them?
Use this guide to help you learn more about managing employees efficiently. You will be able to be more done yourself when you do not have to watch everybody in the building or organization like a hawk.
Use Time Clocks
Time clocks have really fallen out of fashion in recent years as business and corporate culture becomes more nurturing. However, there’s nothing wrong with using time clocks to automate your system and make sure your employees are showing up to work on time and leaving when they are supposed to after the work is done.
These days, time clock technology has also gotten a whole lot better, and the days of jammed punch cards are pretty much over. In fact, you can even get fingerprint time clocks now that scan your employees fingers when they go to punch in or to leave.
This not only increases security, but it also reduces the likelihood of an employee using time clocks fraudulently. You have to remember that just because a card says an employee was there does not mean they really were!
Give Bonuses
Most managers and business owners balk at the idea of giving bonuses. After all, your employees are paid to do a job and they should do the job, right? While that certainly seems true, sometimes giving a small bonus really is worth the money that you will pay out to employees.
In general, bonuses should be commensurate with salary and experience level to really make a difference. Sales employees who make $25,000 per year may work harder for a $100 monthly bonus.
It will not cost you much to implement other bonus programs either. Gift certificates to local restaurants, coffee shops or even airline tickets can really make a difference in how hard your employees work.
If your bottom line goes up, they want at least a little taste of the profits!
