What is a Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer
Regenerative thermal oxidizers (RTO) keeps an industry or factory in compliance with volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions and halogenated and hazardous air pollutant (HAP) emissions. These unsafe emissions, along with hydrocarbons and solvent fumes, are combusted in the regenerative thermal oxidizer (RTO) into harmless carbon dioxide (CO2) and water. The result is a much safer emission into the air that we breathe (which is the goal of the environmental standards).
According to the Combustion Controls Solutions and Environmental Services, Inc. (CCS&ES), the molecular bond breakdown of the hazardous pollutants comes from tremendously high heat and then cooling as they are passed through the three ceramic beds of the RTO system that they designed. Process of Air Purification
To follow a VOC compound through the process, it first enters a ceramic bed where it is heated close to final oxidation temperature. At this point it is passed into the second ceramic bed where it is increased and maintained in heat to final oxidation temperature. The next ceramic bed is used for absorbing most of the heat from the gases which cools them. These cooled, harmless gases are then emitted into the air. A second cycle can repeat the cycle to be sure all hazardous emissions have been maximally removed for purer air.
