Smart Watches Compared – Apple Watch Vs the Pebble Time

Time and technology continue to march on and nowhere is that more obvious than on our wrists. Although Android Wear options have been on the market for several months, new options are hitting the market. The Apple Watch was released in April and pre-orders for the Pebble Time open 22 June. These devices are expected to shake things up in the world of smart watches. Both are similar in many ways, but there are a few key differences. Let us look at how they stack up.

Looks

As far as appearances go, there are mostly similarities between the Pebble Time and the Apple Watch. The faces of both are the same, with a rounded square for the face and interchangeable bands. The controls take two formats, as tabs on the touch screen or small buttons on the side of the watch. The Apple Watch comes in myriad color and band configurations while the Pebble Time has one case and a few band options.

Workings

The display on the Pebble Time is an e-paper format, offering high visibility even in bright sunlight. The Apple has a Retina display for vibrant color but earns lower points for visibility. The operating system on the Apple will be highly familiar to iPhone users, but the verdict is still out on the Pebble because this new product has not been tested by the masses. Both smart watches support multiple apps that can be managed using a cellphone.

Compatibility

The Pebble is touted as being compatible with both Android and Apple devices while the Apple Watch is exclusive to iPhone interfacing. In fact, the Apple Watch only works with newer iPhones and those running iOS 8.2. This may be a deal-breaker for consumers who will not want to upgrade their phones and shell out hundreds of dollars for the watch.

Battery Life

There is a huge difference between these two options as far as battery life is concerned. The Pebble Time boasts a whopping 10 days of life between charges. Only time will tell if this claim can be substantiated, however. The Apple product touts 18 hours of usage between charges – requiring an overnight charge every day.

Price

The Pebble Time wins the race for bottom-line cost, though that is partly because the materials used are not quite as premium as the Apple Watch. However, the Pebble still comes in at a lower price than the stripped-down Apple Watch Sport. The Apple product also comes in two different sizes, each with their own price point, and a huge variety of configurations that will affect the final cost.

There May be difference between pebble watch and apple but two words that connect them is = technology rocks. Looking at the features it looks that the pebble one is the better one but time will tell about the tall claims of pebble. Personally I will go for apple!

You’re right, time will tell. Apple has been here for a while and two years after this post was published, it seems that it’s maintaining its edge over Pebble.
