What Your Music Choices Say About You as an Individual

happy-girl-listening-music-with-headphonesMusic is something that both brings people together and divides people. This one interest can speak volumes about the kind of person you are. Why? Because music is symbolic and expressive. Therefore, other music lovers will often settle on their opinions of you by the kind of tunes that rock your world. However, what does your music say about you as an individual?

Your Music Preferences Can Change with Your Mood

Music preferences are subjective and fluid. They can change with whatever mood you happen to be in. For instance, you might listen to soulful and meaningful love songs when you feel romantic. Alternatively, if you feel sad, emotional rock melodies might be your jams. In addition, as you age, you garner an appreciation for different types of music, making you a true music connoisseur.

Music is Expressive of What You Want to Say

If you are on social media, you have probably seen the emotional status updates of song lyrics, usually posted by lovesick teenagers. However, for everyone, music is an expressive medium of what you want to say. Songs tell your innermost thoughts in their lyrics, and it feels good to know that someone {the singer or band} can relate to how you feel.

Music Can Be Symbolic and Relatable to Your Experiences

Bands and singers are so popular because of how well their songs flow, or how well they can capture the human condition. Music lovers want to feel moved and relatable. Do this test. Think of your favorite singer, your favorite songs, and your favorite lyrics. Why are they important to you? Because they are symbolic of how you have felt in the past or how you feel right now. You can relate to them as much as it feels that they can relate to you.

Good Beats Are Flowing Rhythms of Expressive, Reflective Vibes

The best music is the kind that reflects your moods and personalities as they fluctuate. Sure, everyone has a go-to. Some love the rockin’ vibes of rock-and-roll from hair bands of the 80s. While others dig the slow, grindin’ grooves of 90’s rhythm and blues. There is no wrong answer to the question of what music you love, because it all flows with expression and reflection.

Music inhabits every avenue of life, from a business phoneline that blares soft jazz to keep waiting clients entertained, to elevators that smooth out instrumental favorites—music is everywhere. While some people might judge you for the kind of music you tune into, the only person’s opinion that matters is your own. Listen to what makes you feel the best at the time, whatever that may be.
