If you are a blogger and you want to bring your blogging to the next level, you should register your own domain name. More so if you intend to monetize your website.
In layman’s terms, domain name is the name that people will type into their browser in order to access your site; it is your address in the internet. In the case of this blog, it is techieshe.com.
Bloggers who are just starting out usually just create blogs in free blogging platforms like WordPress.com and Blogger.com. When your website address ends with .blogspot.com or .wordpress.com, it is considered only as a subdomain. This practice is acceptable since some people just want to know whether blogging is for them. It is however for the same reason why you should get your own domain name. By domain name registration, you send out the message to the world that you are serious with your blogging.
Another reason why you should get a domain name is the fact that having your own domain name makes branding easier. It gives a sense of authenticity and respectability to your site because it is not associated with other companies such as WordPress and Blogspot. In addition, having an email address using your domain name makes your communication with your site’s clients more professional and credible as compared to just using yahoo and gmail.
A domain name is a great investment for every blogger. If you are really serious with blogging, get one.

I agree, domain name helps you with the branding. Also, having a domain name is advantageous since advertisers can be easily attracted with blogs that has its own domain name.

That’s right. Advertisers indeed prefer blogs with their own domain names. A must-have investment for every blogger who wants to monetize his or her blog.

Great points, I used to have a domain on my main blog till it’s PR was taken away by Google hehehe. I switched back to blogspot as it has a page rank, however, I lost the subscribers so that was a negative thing I got..
Techie She says
indeed, it’s easier for subdomains of blogspot to earn PR because they are basically under the top level domain blogspot.com while it takes super duper effort to really make your own domain gain PR. but when your own domain name gains PR sis, it’s more satisfying because it means that all your effort paid off.

registering domain names does work wonders especially if you plan to monetize your blogs. it was one of the best decisions i’ve ever made as a blogger! + i am so thankful that i did not even have to pay for 2 domains the first time i register them as i won one in a giveaway while my main domain was gifted to me by a dear blogger friend/mentor!
if given the chance, i would also love to gift other budding bloggers with their very own domain! 🙂
Techie She says
that’s so generous of you sis. i’m inspired to revive my weekly giveaway because of what you said. i used to giveaway webhosting with domain in the Techie She Weekly Giveaways…

domain blogs have more advantage than those who have sub-domains. Like me, i have to subdomain blogs with pr2 but they are not generating income 🙁
Techie She says
most advertisers are not really into sub-domains especially with blogspot because Blogger could just disable your blog without any warning. and of course, there are other benefits of having your own TLD.
