Being connected with the rest of the world has now become a necessity. It is no wonder that as a techie, one of the gadgets that you can probably live without is a cellphone.
Just like other gadgets, a cellphone entails cost and depending on your cellphone plan, you might be incurring phone charges on a monthly basis or only when you need it (like prepaid plans).
I’ve always been a fan of prepaid phones. I hate being tied up in a contract and I want to be flexible when it comes to my budget. Having a fixed monthly expense for cellphones makes me feel restricted because I need to set aside a certain amount each month to pay for phone bills (and other hidden fees). Besides, with the popularity of Facebook, email and other online social networking sites, I haven’t been using my phone as much as I used to.
One of the up and coming prepaid phone companies here in the US is Straight Talk and it offers a lot of flexible plans for its users. They have “all you need” plan, unlimited monthly service for $45 and even annual unlimited service for $499. You can also Call a friend or a relative abroad because they also have a prepaid service with their Straight Talk International Long Distance Service.
“How about their phones?” you might ask. They also have a wide selection of phones. You can get some reconditioned phones for as low as $10 get those smart phones and Android on Straight Talk.
Here’s a video from Straight Talk that I’d like to share with you. I’m not saying that you fall for it Hook, line and sinker but it might be worth watching.
I also use VOIP, YM and Skype. FB chat whenever possible to connect with my family and friends back home. It’s almost free if you’re already hooked to the internet. I just have my cellphone on prepaid plan too for emergency calls.
Have a great day.
