As personal blogger, you’re probably more interested in just getting a shared web hosting service at the moment but once your website becomes successful or more popular and your traffic grows, you might need to migrate to a dedicated web hosting for your site. The problem with the latter, however, is that it can be so expensive because in this type of hosting, all the resources of the physical machine is all yours.
Good news! Now, most web hosts are offering virtual dedicated server (vds) to their clients at a relatively cheaper price (than dedicated hosting).
What is VDS hosting, you might wonder?
VDS hosting (or sometimes called virtual private server hosting) is an internet hosting service where a web host offers a virtual machine which shares the same physical machine with other client’s virtual machines but is wholly dedicated to the client’s individual needs. This virtual machine runs on its own independent operating system or software, own dedicated IP address and has the privacy of a separate physical computer. It allows you to do live video or audio streaming, access MySQL addresses remotely, set up a proxy server and much more.
When choosing a VPS hosting provider, you should also do your research. Compare prices and features being offered by various web hosting companies. Don’t get a very cheap service (because to compensate for the low cost, you get less support services) or too high that it’s almost same as the cost of a dedicated server hosting. For the features, check out the CPU, RAM size, number of IP addresses, disk space available and bandwidth among other things.
The point is, if shared hosting is already inadequate for your needs, you can always go for a virtual private server hosting. It’s a cheaper alternative to dedicated hosting.
