Cartridges: Original or Refilled?

Do you use original ink cartridges on your printers or just the refilled ones?

These days, people are looking for more ways to cut their spending and it’s no wonder why refilled cartridges for printers are becoming popular. The cost of ink for genuine toner cartridges are relatively higher compared to just using refilled cartridges and a little savings here and there can add up, right?

While using genuine ink cartridges might be costly, there are times when it’s much better to buy a genuine one than to pay for a refill. When you’re printing photos, using a genuine cartridge will somehow guarantee the quality of your pictures because there are times when refilled cartridges blot. Besides, a genuine printer cartridge usually have some sort of warranty so it would be easier to request for a replacement if you’re not satisfied with the product that you have. Plus, an original cartridge is always compatible with your printer because they are from the company that created it.

But as I had mentioned, the main reason why people just use refilled cartridges or the non-genuine ones is because they are cheaper – and these people can’t be blamed for that either because it’s their money that their spending, their printers that they’re using and their outputs that they’re printing.

Original or refilled? Well, it all just boils down to the choices that we make under the circumstances that we’re in.

I generally use the refilled because it’s a form of recycling (I also used recycled printer paper, etc). But then, I have no need to print out photos and my ancient inkjet printer wouldn’t be the way to do it even if I was.

I think it depends on the quality of the printing in question. You’re, of course, going to get better quality from a new cartrige from the manufacturer that created them specifically for your printer. I just don’t think that a lot of people who print every-day stuff really need to go that high-cost option when there’s a lower-cost recycled option out there.

As a tip, for those trying to conserve ink and are going to be printing non-color pages… if you go into your printing preferences when you’re going to print out a page and change the print output to “black and white” it will print from the black cartridge instead of your color cartridge (black cartridge are much cheaper to replace). You can also print most black and white pages in “draft” mode without a visible difference in your print out, and it uses about 30% less ink per page.

We’ve been using originals only ever since. We don’t go to the malls to acquire the cartridges though. We order them online since they turn out 50 to 70 cheaper than the ones sold in malls.
