Here are some tips for better title and description tags for your blog posts or pages:
1. Keep your title short but informative.
Google’s character limit including the spaces is just 69 characters so be sure to write a title that would be descriptive of your post and yet include those keywords that users will likely use when looking for the content of that page.
2. Write description tags.
Description tags show up in search engine results as snippets so don’t take this thing for granted because a well written description tag can have a big impact on your search traffic. Don’t go overboard, though, and try to limit them to just between 100 to 156 characters, including spaces.
3. Use keywords.
Be sure that your post contains whatever topic or key word that you mentioned in your title and description tags. When users view the search engine results, these keywords (if that’s what they’re looking for) usually appear in bold letters) and if your have those specific keywords in your post, it is some sort of reassurance that it might really be the post that contains what they are looking for. In addition, Google also compares the words and phrases that you are using in your title and description tags with the content of your post or page to make sure that they really are relevant so don’t place a misleading title to your post.
4. Write with flair but be accurate.
Good title and description tags will most likely entice people to click thru your site when they are viewing the search engine results so give them some oomph. However, be as accurate as possible and don’t try to “trick” people into clicking your link by writing titles and description tags that are inaccurate. For example, if both your title and description tags mention blogging tips, be sure that your post is really about blogging tips.
