Uses of Two-Way Radios

Nowadays, people mostly use phones and the internet to communicate wirelessly. In the early 1900’s, radio equipment was the one used by people to exchange messages. Two-way telegraphy traffic was already commercially available across the Atlantic Ocean in 1907 and in 1923, the first mobile two-way radio was developed in Australia.

The following are among the popular uses or functions of two-way radios (or radios that can both receive and transmit content with similar radios that operate on the same channel or radio frequency):

Family or Personal Use

Included in this function are those times that you need to keep in touch with your family, friends or group while you’re traveling, enjoying the outdoors, hiking, fishing, in a theme park perhaps, a shopping mall, or for recreational purposes.

Organizational Use

Some organizations use radios to coordinate rapid responses in cases of emergencies. Whether for business or pleasure, two-way radios can keep the organization’s leaders, staff and volunteers in touch with each other.

Business Use

Businesses and organizations use two-way radios, walkie-talkies or handy-talkies to carry out their business or organizational goals. Examples of these are farming walkie talkies used in small farms, school radios and two-way radio equipment used by the military, retail stores and hotels.

What other functions of two-way radios can you think of? Do you agree that two-way radios are in the brink of “extinction” because of the advancement in cellular phone and internet technologies? Care to share your thoughts in the comments section below?
